Mental Health Matters

With 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children experiencing ill mental health in the UK1, the team at Stafford House London set out to develop a better understanding of how they can look after the mental health of their community.

As a result, Cameron Marklew, Assistant Director of Studies, received training to become a Mental Health First Aider with Mental Health England and has since qualified.

“The greatest takeaway for me has been to listen. Listen to my students and colleagues without judgment and without the need to try and chime in with advice or probe for more information.”

“The key is preventative action, rather than trying to remedy a situation yourself. It’s about making your students and peers feel heard.”

Student wellbeing is an essential part of our key pillar “to create a positive environment for learning”. Our role extends beyond the classroom. We want our students to feel comfortable, secure, and healthy – both physically and mentally healthy – in their (often) home-away-from-home.
