CATS Academy Boston introduces three new Academies

CATS Academy Boston, part of CATS Global Schools (CGS), has introduced three new Academies of Excellence. These academies provide students from grade 8 onwards (age 13+) the opportunity to focus their studies on their chosen passion, whether it be in the Arts, Ice Hockey or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths).

In addition to a core academic curriculum, students spend 3.5 hours each day studying their chosen specialism. This includes individual lessons with specialists and guest lectures from professional artists, academics and hockey coaches. Each academy offers a range of opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and skills to take the next step in their specialist area.

American Hockey Academy

Student-athletes in the American Hockey Academy at CATS Boston skate and practice each day for three hours; it is the most intensive hockey programme in the USA. The two teams, U16 and U18, play approximately 70 games during the school year – three times the number of games in a typical hockey season. Besides the quality of education and ice time, hockey players are coached weekly by Graeme Townshend, a former National Hockey League (NHL) professional player.

CSVPA Boston Arts Academy

Students can choose from a range of art electives such as Acting, Technical Theatre, Creative Art and Music, to explore their creativity.

As part of CSVPA Boston Arts Academy, students have access to partnerships with leading universities such as Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the number one Creative Media and Entertainment School in the World1 and Full Sail, named The Princeton Review’s Top Game Design School 2021, for the seventh year in a row2. Through these partnerships, students can dual-enrol and achieve transferable university credits, access prestigious scholarships and build employability skills by working on capstone projects led by industry experts. This year, one student’s capstone project involved writing songs, working with other musicians, and publishing an EP (short album) on music streaming services. He is now attending Berklee College of Music, Boston.

STEAM Academy

The STEAM Academy will launch in Sept 2022, allowing students to focus on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.

The academy will build on a successful pilot programme, launched in 2020, with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), the number one university in the USA for Earning Power3. Students interested in healthcare can dual-enrol with MCPHS and study a 3-credit undergraduate course – challenging them to go beyond CATS Academy Boston’s academically rigorous curriculum. Due to its success, next year students will be able to choose between two courses – Medical Terminology and Introduction to United States Healthcare.
