A new interim Headteacher for BCS

Maria Coulter has been appointed interim Headteacher of Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS), assuming responsibility from 1 August 2022. Maria replaces Russell Slatford, who is stepping down at the end of the academic year on 31 August.

Already a much-loved and respected member of the community, Maria has been with BCS for eleven years. She joined the school as Head of Sixth Form and progressed to Senior Deputy Head, teaching A level Business and leading teacher training. Over the last 15 years, she has been responsible for recruiting and training almost 100 new teachers.

Talking about her appointment, Maria says:

“I am delighted to be taking up the post as interim Headteacher for such a fantastic school.”

Maria continues:

“I am very fortunate to be working alongside a dedicated and committed team as passionate as I am about ensuring that the school is the best it can be for the pupils and community we serve.

“As interim Headteacher, I aim to provide stability and continuity for the pupils, staff, and parents while the search for a permanent headteacher takes place.”

Maria has 28 years’ experience in education and started her career teaching Business and Economics. She has held various leadership roles in different areas of school operations, having previously specialised in sixth form education. She plans to continue teaching alongside her leadership responsibilities and stresses that “it is really important to me to stay connected to pupils.”

Talking about the future, Maria adds:

“BCS is at such an exciting stage in its development as part of a wider education group, CATS Global Schools. We have secured investment to improve the site to develop the student experience, including irrigating the playing field and improving the early years play area, tennis courts, and swimming pool.

“I look forward to working with the whole community and building on the excellent work Mr Slatford has already carried out.”
